This thesis investigated the syntactic and semantic features of Parallelism. The data used in observation were taken from English songs and Vietnamese songs. First of all, the qualitative approach was exploited to analyze the corpus in an attempt to explore the syntactic and semantic properties of Parallelism, which were sometimes left unaware by translators and language learners. The main study then focused on the syntactic structures of Parallelism and the semantic dimension of this stylistic device. In the next step, the similarities and differences among English and Vietnamese parallel structures in terms of syntactic and semantic features were identified based on the comparison between the two systems. Finally, the implications for the language teaching and learning as well as translation work were set forth.en_US
