A DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF THE LANGUAGEOF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CONTRACTS IN ENGLISH WRITTEN BY VIETNAMESE AUTHORS

Abstract

This is a corpus – based study on Discouse Analysis in terms of the lexical and syntactic features of international business contracts in English (IBCs) written by Vietnamese authors. An analysis is made to find out how the words and sentences have been used by Vietnanese authors in making internatinal business contracts. Together with discussion and comments on common features of discourse analysis, the thesis focuses on the lexical and syntactic features as used in IBCs. In the process of the thesis, the summary on how Vietnamese drafters deal with lexical choice and syntax in IBCs has been presented so as to lead to the conclusion and implications at the end of the thesis. The result of this study may help entrepreneurs, teachers and students to draw up and understand more about IBCs. The findings lay the foundations of implications for teaching and learning to achieve better communicative competence. The thesis also suggests some guidelines and futher researches on different fields of IBCs, to some extent, deeper study on interesting IBCs can be made.
