dc.description.abstractBased on the theories of discourse analysis, this thesis examined the typical discourse features of Golden Globe Award Acceptance Speeches (GGAASs) and Canh Dieu Vang Award Acceptance Speeches (CDVAASs). This study aimed to find out the similarities and differences between two languages in terms of the layout, lexical choice, syntactic features and pragmatic features, then suggest some implications for teaching English to Vietnamese learners. The research was conducted on the basis of the combination of a variety of methods, namely qualitative, quantitative, descriptive and contrastive analysis. 50 samples of GGAASs and 50 samples of CDVAASs were collected from the Internet from 2007 to 2013. The findings obtained from the layout analysis show that the layouts of both languages contain three sections: Introduction, Body and Conclusion section. As for the lexical choice, emotive as well as evaluative adjectives, common nouns and proper nouns, verbs denoting gratefulness, evaluation and emotion are frequently uen_US
