This thesis has been done in an effort to investigate the syntactic and semantic features of Manner Circumstances (Manner Circs) in English and in Vietnamese. In order to conduct this research successfully, Experiential meaning in Functional Grammar has been used as a theoretical base to classify Manner Circs into specific categories. In addition, a collection of Manner Circs taken from various sources in English and in Vietnamese has been used as the effective device to exploit the similarities as well as differences in both languages. With the description, comparison and contrast between each subtype of Manner Circs in English and in Vietnamese, the findings will serve as a foundation to put forward some implications for utilizing of Manner Circs in written and spoken speech appropriately and effectively.en_US
