dc.description.abstractThis thesis is aimed to describe and analyse online sales chats with different functions such as: the ways of conversation opening and closing; interrogative, declarative, imperative, expressive, commissive in English and Vietnamese, to find out their similarities and differences in syntactic, pragmatic features and commonly - used characteristics in the two languages. The study is based on data collected from English and Vietnamese online sales chats including 300 English OSCs and 300 Vietnamese OSCs. The data was described and contrastively analysed on syntactic, pragmatic aspects and commonly-used characteristics under qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings lay the implication for the buyers and sellers to improve the languages and structures effectively in social communication with each other.-
