Abstract: This study attempts to investigate English Adjectives denoting ‘Big’ through the exploration of such descriptive adjectives as big, huge, great, large, bulky, vast, enormous together with valuable adjectives big, important, great, mature, important, considerable. Adjectives denoting ‘Big” in English and their Vietnamese equivalents are collected, analyzed and classified into groups. The most important and significant problem, the similarities and differences between English adjectives and Vietnamese adjectives, in view of semantics, are presented in order to help learners have better use of language in communication. On the basis of the findings, some teaching and translation implications have been put forward. Finally suggestions for further study are made for anyone that is interested in this problem to continue studying to perfect this research.
