This is a qualitative investigation in to linguistic devices indicating paraphrases in English and Vietnamese movie scripts. The investigation focuses on syntactic and semantic features of transitional signals indicating paraphrases in conversations. English and Vietnamese samples are taken from movie scripts and movie transcripts. The contrastive analysis is also carried out to make a comparison between the usage of the indicators in two languages. The investigation also provides some implications for learners and teachers of the two languages to apply in language learning and teaching.en_US
