Abstract: This thesis investigated the syntactic and semantic features of Repetition in English and Vietnamese love songs. The data used in the study were taken from over 200 songs including about 400 samples of typical repetition. With the analysis of repetition in the two languages along with the statistic information, this study provides an in-depth analysis of linguistic features of this stylistic device under the line of the own socio-cultures and economies of two nations. The qualitative approach was exploited to analyze the corpus in an attempt to explore the syntactic and semantic properties of Repetition. The study focused on the syntactic and semantic features of this stylistic device. In the study, the similarities and differences among English and Vietnamese repetition structures in terms of syntactic and semantic features are identified based on the comparison between the two systems. The implications for language teaching and learning, translation work as well as composing songs were set forth.
