Abstract: | This thesis points out the finding of stylistic features of some commonly used stylistic devices namely simile, repetition, enumeration, antithesis and hyperbole in “Bình Ngô Đại Cáo” and “Tuyên Ngôn Độc Lập” and their English translational equivalents in “Proclamation of Victory” and “Declaration of Independence”, the similarities and differences between them, and the loss and gain of some common used stylistic devices. The data of the study are totally collected from “Bình Ngô Đại Cáo” and “Tuyên Ngôn Độc Lập” and their English translational equivalents in “Proclamation of Victory” and “Declaration of Independence”. They are described and contrastively analyzed on stylistic aspects under qualitative and quantitative approaches to reveal more precise points on stylistic devices. Hopefully the study is useful to those who want to know more about the Vietnamese history because the literary works of Nguyen Trai and Ho Chi Minh are not only the political commentaries but also the glorious pages in history of the nation. They help us learn more about the Vietnamese in war and respect the peaceful life that we achieved by blood and tears of millions of Vietnamese. |
