Abstract: Today, Vietnamese people have many opportunities to study more than one or two foreign languages. Not only English but also other languages have become the most important means of communication in various aspects. According to some studies, whenever two cultures meet, with some time, a new hybrid form of the culture is form. One important aspect of culture is language, and it is quickly hybridized as bilinguals try to communicate between both cultures. Nowadays, it is not strange to hear in Vietnamese conversations appearing some English, French or Chinese words. The purpose of this study is to point out the extents, the reasons and factors of using code switching in conversations from Vietnamese teenagers. Efforts have been made to provide classifications and comparison of code switching in conversations from Vietnamese Teenagers, Middle Ages and Old Ages. The data for analysis are collected and recorded from many sources such as Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo! Messengers as well as 3600 blogs by means of a questionnaire distributed directly to the informants or via Internet. The findings and suggestion from this study might be useful for Vietnamese teenagers and other generation who need to keep the clear meaning of Vietnamese as well as to approach communication effectiveness and promote mutual understanding.
